Sleeping in The Storm

“Who is this man that even the wind and sea obey him?” Mark 4:41

In times like these, we need to consistently remind one another that Jesus-by way of the Holy Spirit living inside the believer-is with us constantly.  Fear has a way of making us forget this and other important facts as well.

As the waves of catastrophic events roll in to the culture one after another we call out as the disciples did, “Teacher, don’t you care that we perishing?”   Daily we are assaulted with,

  • Elected people lie and cheat constantly

  • People hate and abuse and kill one another often for no reason.

  • Children are being abused including sexualized and sold into human trafficking.

  • Persecution of Christians around the world is at record numbers

  • Satan is having a field day deceiving mass number of people.

  • Natural disasters are destroying multiple lands and leaving people homeless and/or dead.

  • Disasters of every kind are ever increasing.

Many wonder: Is God aware? Is He callous towards all of what’s going on?  Does He care?  Certainly the disciples thought that when, “A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.” Vs. 37.  They see him “sleeping on a cushion in the stern.”  Vs. 38.  We live in a sinful, fallen world where every day people make choices that are sinful and wrong and often result in bad things happening.  As we recognize God’s sovereignty to deliver those who trust in Him, He got up and said to the waves, Quiet down, Be still!”  vs. 39.  Maybe one of the many takeaways here is that we should take all our fears to Jesus and rest in Him.  Repeating what we already know but need to hear it again and again.  Choose faith, choose rest and calm.  NOTHING escapes His command to cease in His timing.  He is LORD over all!
